Street fights, chases and 'kids drinking booze and taking drugs' - it was a busy day for police in Ashton-under-Lyne

A knife was seized after a brawl broke out in the street in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Police rushed to the town centre on Monday afternoon following reports of a fight on Warrington Street.

At the same time, officers were called to nearby Wellington Street following complaints a gang of teenagers was causing trouble.

Just a few minutes later, a suspected drug dealer was chased down and arrested.

Mobile phone footage from the scene shows a number of police vehicles parked up by the market and McDonalds, surrounded by crowds of passers-by.

According to Ashton inspector Lee Derbyshire, officers were first called at around 2pm after a fight reportedly broke out and that someone was armed with a knife.

As police arrived, those involved ran away.

The area was searched and a blade discovered nearby.

As it stands, no one has come forward to report injuries. Officers are reviewing CCTV.

Just around the corner, a group of youths were reportedly causing problems, drinking alcohol and taking drugs.

Police also attended that incident, but no arrests were made.

If that wasn't enough to keep officers occupied, there was also a police chase near King George V Park.

Insp Derbyshire said patrols tried to stop a driver on Miller Street, but they drove off before crashing turning onto Henrietta Street.

The 33-year-old suspect then attempted to run off, but was chased down and caught.

He was then arrested on suspicion of aggravated taking (a vehicle) without owners consent, failure to stop, possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply, drug driving and possession of a knife.

The man was questioned and has since been released under investigation.

Anyone with information relating to any of the incidents is asked to contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
