It’s got to the point now where adding Jason Momoa to your project is guaranteed to give the movie a fun-filled jolt.
Well, Street Fighter looks to be taking that very literally by way of the electrifying brute, Blanka, whom Momoa will be beating his chest as in the new movie.
A brand new preview for the upcoming video game adaptation has appeared online, showing Andrew Koji’s Ryu going up against Blanka in a cage fight. Watching in the wings is the orchestrator of chaos and well-dressed tyrant, M. Bison, played by David Dastmalchian. Watch it below.
Compared to the movie version we got in 1994, the bar for Momoa taking on the orange-haired mutant is pretty low. It’s why the kooky, crazed version we’ve glimpsed here is already an improvement and lines up nicely with the original fighter fans have loved since 1991.
Joining him, Koji, and Dastmalchian in the fight are Noah Centineo as Ken, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, and 50 Cent, to name a few.
It looks like director Kitao Sakurai is making the right moves to bring a respectful and wild-looking take on the beloved beat-em-up franchise to life. Fireballs and electric shocks aplenty, the snippet even includes a cameo from YouTuber Maximilian Dood. But is that enough for fans so far? After the preview release, it might just be.
One fan wrote, “Seeing an actual, glowing Hadoken rendered like this in live action... 10-year-old me is screaming right now,” while another assured that “I'm sold the moment they included the detail of Blanka's roll and his signature two feet kick thingy. Awesome.”
Another commented on the other big cameo, writing, “Never thought I'd see Maximilian Dood in an official Street Fighter movie. Congratulations to him.”
See if the new movie can hold its own in battle when Street Fighter kicks into theaters on October 16, 2026.
