Street Fighter 6 has set a Guinness World Record at Evo Japan 2026 for the largest tournament for a single fighting video game.
The Street Fighter 6 bracket at Evo Japan 2026 reached 7,168 entrants, beating the previous record of 7,083 set by Street Fighter 6 at Evo 2023 in Las Vegas. The new record was confirmed during the event’s final day at Tokyo Big Sight, where the bracket concluded after three days of games.

That number is absurd even by Evo standards, as tournaments usually don’t gather this kind of number even at more prestigious Evo Las Vegas. Fighting game tournaments are already difficult to run at scale because every match is played head-to-head, usually through double elimination, with hundreds or thousands of individual sets needed before the bracket reaches the top eight, so many events impose artificial limits on registrant numbers. At more than 7,000 players, Evo Japan 2026’s Street Fighter 6 tournaments became the largest single-game fighting tournament ever recorded.
The record is a testament to Street Fighter’s popularity in Japan. It’s the most popular fighting game in the world as is, but Japan has always been a driving force behind its popularity. The sixth entry also didn’t endure the same controversy the previous game did, so the staying power is still there even three years later, and it’s pulling historic tournament numbers.

Evo Japan 2026 ended with a hometown hero, Eisuke “Yamaguchi” Yamaguchi, winning the Street Fighter 6 tournament, using Mai to defeat Victor “Punk” Woodley in the grand finals. Punk finished second with Cammy, while Higuchi took third with Guile, and Hope finished fourth with A.K.I. The rest of the top eight included Shuto, naooonn, NuckleDu, and takepi.
The previous Guinness listing for the largest Street Fighter tournament was Evo 2023 in Las Vegas with 7,083 participants. Evo Japan 2026 has now pushed that mark higher with 7,168 entrants, giving Street Fighter 6 both the old and new record marks.
Let’s see if the Las Vegas event this Summer will get its record back.
