Street Fighter 6 demo now available after packed Street Fighter Showcase

Capcom has released a Street Fighter 6 demo on PlayStation consoles after a filled-to-the-brim Street Fighter 6 Showcase livestream.

Street Fighter 6 has been blown wide open after last night's Street Fighter 6 Showcase which showed off the game's single-player modes like the brand new World Tour story mode and some of the other offline modes available in the Fighting Grounds. If all of that wasn't enough, a Street Fighter 6 demo has now been released, taking you through the early parts of World Tour, and giving you access to some of the Fighting Ground modes with Ryu and Luke. This was all revealed on a YouTube stream from Capcom hosted by Lil' Wayne of all people.

The Street Fighter 6 Demo is available right now on PS5 and PS4, but players on Xbox Series X|S and PC will have to wait until Wednesday, April 26. Considering most Street Fighter 6 trailers so far have been at PlayStation events, it's safe to assume there's some co-marketing deal there, we've seen this before with PlayStation consoles getting an exclusive Resident Evil Village demo, but at least it's only five days.

World Tour is a long-form RPG mode in which you take your created character throughout the world of Street Fighter, training with legends of the streets to learn their moves, while also having a scrap with almost anyone by simply walking up to them and asking for a scrap. It has a robust character creator which lets you take full advantage of the RE Engine to create a Street Fighter representation of you, or – more likely – a complete monstrosity. In the demo, you're able to experience the game's first chapter, train with the new poster boy Luke, and meet your Gary Oak-like rival, Bosch.

Fighting Ground is also available in the Steet Fighter 6 Demo and grants you access to Ryu and Luke throughout a few of the sections' main modes. You can play local 1v1 battles, play the tutorial, play the Smash Bros-esque Extreme Battle mode, or check out Character Guides, which not only teach you a character's moves, but the thought process behind how to play as them.

Triumph or die

Capcom also showed off some new features for the game in the stream, including the ability to take your avatars online to the Battle Hub lobby to fight with other players' creations. Considering you can mix and match moves from different Street Fighter characters, I doubt this mode will be balanced in the slightest, but it's a very cool addition.

We also got a peek at two of the Fighting Ground modes unavailable in the demo Arcade and Team Battle. Arcade is your typical ladder where you find out the story of a character while battling through a number of stages, an obvious addition, but considering Street Fighter 5 didn't have one at launch, it's nice to see it here. While Team Battle has you draft a roster of fighters to test your skills with multiple characters, I used to love this mode in the older Tekken games, so it's cool to see it appear in Street Fighter.

Finally, we got our first look at the four DLC characters included in the Year 1 pass. We have Street Fighter 2's legendary Akuma, with perhaps his best design yet – which seems to be a trend with Street Fighter 6, as the same applies for Cammy, Zangief and others. Also returning are two of Street Fighter 5's greatest, Ed and Rashid, with mysterious newcomer A.K.I rounding out the squad. Rashid is first in line, arriving in Summer 2023, with A.K.I., Ed, and Akuma showing up in Autumn, Winter, and Spring respectively.

Street Fighter 6 looks like a direct reaction to Street Fighter 5, while that game was severely lacking content, Street Fighter 6 seems to be packed to the gills with a lengthy single-player campaign alongside plenty of multiplayer modes.
