
Interested members of the public are invited to witness the Seacon Street International Challenge: The Princess Cup, which will take place at the Main Atrium, 1st floor of Seacon Square, Srinakarin Road, this weekend from 1-7pm.
Set to compete for trophies from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and cash prizes worth 420,000 baht in total in what is hailed as Thailand's greatest dance competition will be 60 teams of street dancers from Thailand and overseas.
The competition has two categories. The Junior category will see 22 teams, each comprising five to eight members aged up to 16 years, taking to the stage in the selection round on Saturday June 8 from 1-3pm. Only 10 teams will sail to the final round on Sunday June 9 from 1-2.30pm.
The Open category features 30 teams from Thailand and eight teams from Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines and Myanmar, each also comprising five to eight members of any ages. They will compete in the selection round on Saturday from 3-6pm.
Only 16 teams will be picked for the final round on Sunday from 2.30-4.30pm, where four world-renowned dancers from the movie Step Up -- Mari Koda, Boogie Frantick, La Jon Dantzier and J Smooth -- will be among the judges.
Each of the four judges will also conduct a one-hour workshop today starting at 11am. There is no admission fee for contestants but the fee is 500 baht per class for the general public.
The top winning team of each category will receive a royal trophy, plus 80,000 baht in cash for the Junior category and 150,000 baht for the Open category. There are also trophies from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports for the first and second runners-up of both categories, plus cash prizes.
