The live music heart of Cardiff is to get a new Irish bar, three years after the much lamented closing of Dempseys- one of the city's best known pubs.
Jack Russell's Irish Bar & Kitchen is set to open its doors on the capital's Womanby Street in April, located in an empty building just a few doors down from where Dempey's once stood, a site which was taken over in 2017 by the Gareth Bale/Brains co-venture Elevens Bar & Grill.
It'll be the second opening in Cardiff in recent times for owners The Irish Bar Group, the firm having invested £1m in transforming the long derelict site of former live music bar and restaurant Miss Jones in Whitchurch in 2019.
The company previously stated that its plan is to open three new Jack Russell’s bars and kitchens in the city altogether, the trio of venues projected to bring more than 100 jobs to the local area.
Like the Whitchurch branch, the bar is expected to open seven days a week and will offer classic Irish breakfasts from 9am and food throughout the day.
The menus will put an authentic Irish twist on traditional brasserie and grill fare, with burgers and steaks sharing space on the specials board with meals like Boxty, a traditional Irish potato pancake.
Meanwhile, the drinks roster will be set to include lots of specialist Irish whiskies, gin and other spirits that will compliment an exclusive cocktail menu."
There will also likely be live Irish music during the day and live bands at night.
