Street artist unveils stunning murals in Ayr town centre

A street artist reckons he can transform Ayr’s tired town centre with the aid of his spray can.

Talented Scott Mcanally has turned heads with three stunning murals on the Lorne Arcade.

The main event is a 25-foot-high silverback gorilla.

The former Marr College pupil, 22, said: “I went to the landlord with my idea and he was up for it.

“Until now my art has been indoors at bars like the Buf, Arthur Street Kitchen and 7 Saints but my long-term aim is to get out on the streets

“I think Ayrshire has been left behind.

“You look at places like London and Glasgow and they’re full of this stuff.”

The murals, featuring a giant gorilla, octopus and a tiger right above the arcade, have won rave reviews from locals and tourists alike.

Scott, who lives in the High Street, said: “It’s a great talking point and hopefully it can be the first of many.

“I like to use bold statements like the gorilla and tiger to stand out.”
