Streatham crash: Police hunt three hit-and-run suspects who fled BMW leaving Deliveroo rider for dead

A Deliveroo rider died in a hit-and-run smash after three occupants of an overturned BMW clambered out and fled on foot.

Footage from the scene shows a wrecked dark blue vehicle flipped onto its side in Leigham Court Road, Streatham on Thursday night.

One local saw the motorcyclist in his 40s “lying motionless” on the ground having heard “a tremendous crash” from his flat.

Police were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a motorbike at 8.15pm.

Officers attended with paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers know his identity and have informed his next of kin.

Detectives are appealing for information and dash-cam footage that may give them more information about the crash.

Detective Sergeant Nick Bale of the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “A blue BMW was abandoned at the scene of the collision and we believe that three occupants of that vehicle fled the scene on foot.

“I urge anyone who has information concerning the identity of those involved to get in touch. Similarly, if you were in the car, please make yourself known to us.

“This collision resulted in a man’s death and a family is now struggling to come to terms with their loss. Our thoughts are with them.”

Deliveroo spokesperson said: “This is an incredibly tragic and shocking accident and our hearts go out to all of his family and friends.

“We are making contact with the next of kin and we will do everything we can to support them. We have also offered to help the police however we can.”

A police spokesperson said: “At this early stage there have been no arrests. Enquiries into the circumstances continue.

“Anyone who witnessed this incident or has footage can call the Incident Room on 020 8285 1574, call 101 or Tweet @MetCC quoting 7533/11MAY.”

Streatham councillor Martin Abrams tweeted: “Shocked and saddened. I’m seeking full details as soon as possible but clear that fundamental changes must happen to slow and calm traffic in this area.”
