The Red Sox head back to the Bronx to take on the Yankees this weekend. The Sox haven’t played very well against the Yankees in the season series and will look to bounce back after a slide that could continue against the strong Yankee lineup.
The Yankees are coming into this series with the best record in baseball with a 12.5 game lead over the Red Sox. This is a big series for the Sox to let everyone know they are legitimate contenders this year especially with the trade deadline on the horizon.

Their starting pitching is dynamite, as they succeeded in their top priority to re-sign Chris Sale, who will pitch in their opener against the Mariners. They also re-signed Nathan Eovaldi, who will likely be followed by David Price, Rick Porcello, and Eduardo Rodriguez. If this rotation can stay healthy – which is always a challenge – they can be the best in the MLB.
On the hitting side, no team boasts a lineup as potent as Boston. Mookie Betts is coming off an MVP season and at age 26, is only getting better. The same can be said for fellow outfielders Andrew Benintendi and Jackie Bradley Jr. All three could be the best outfielder on any other team in the league, which never ceases to amaze Sox fans.
In the infield, Xander Bogaerts will try to regain his form from 2015 when he hit .320, but nonetheless, a .883 OPS in 2018 was a career-high for the shortstop. Rafael Devers is still only 22 somehow, and while he regressed last season, the third basemen is poised to make a jump in 2019.
In a year when the other American League contenders got better, manager Alex Cora and Boston will have to elevate their game even further. But that’s what will make 2019 such an exciting season from start to finish.
