FRISCO, Texas _ Thanks to the Philadelphia Eagles' victory against the Washington Redskins on Monday night, the Dallas Cowboys are now all alone in first place in the NFC East.
And now they can all but clinch the division title with a victory against the Eagles in Dallas on Sunday.
The Cowboys, who won their fourth straight game with the 13-10 victory against the New Orleans Saints last Thursday, are 7-5 while the Eagles and Redskins are one game behind at 6-6.
A win Sunday would give the Cowboys the season sweep of the Eagles and a two game lead in the division with three games to go.
The Eagles also seemingly have a tougher final schedule as they play at the Los Angeles Rams (11-2), host the Houston Texans (9-3) before finishing the season at the Redskins.
The Redskins are also in second place but they are now on their third quarterback with Mark Sanchez taking over against the Eagles after backup Colt McCoy broke his leg. McCoy was starting in place of starter Alex Smith, who also suffered a season-ending leg fracture.
They have games against the last-place New York Giants, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tennessee Titans before the season finale against the Eagles.
The bottom line is that the division is there for the Cowboys to take starting Sunday.
A win against Eagles would all but secure it, as the Eagles would have to win all three of their remaining games and the Cowboys would have to lose all three of its games against the Indianapolis Colts (away), the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (home) and the Giants (road) in the final.
Now, if the Eagles win on Sunday, it would put them in a first-place tie with the Cowboys and also give them the tie-breaker in the division. But the Eagles do have a tougher remaining schedule.
The easiest path for the streaking Cowboys is to win on Sunday with their fifth straight victory.
The Cowboys will enter the game rested and ready to go after a 10-day layoff following the Saints game. They are getting the Eagles on a short week. Philadelphia must travel to Dallas after playing the Redskins on Monday night.
