The Krabi governor has ordered provincial livestock officials to move all stray dogs from Ao Nang beach after a gang attack a Finnish boy.
Pol Lt Col M.L. Kitibordi Prawit on Thursday directed officials of the provincial livestock office to urgently remove all stray dogs from the famous beach in Muang district before other tourists are hurt by the animals.
The order followed an incident on Wednesday when about five roaming dogs bit a five-year-old boy from Finland while he was playing on the beach.
His father, local residents and other tourists rushed to save the boy by dispersing the dogs. The boy was sent to Krabi Nakharin International hospital. The boy reportedly has to stay in the hospital at least for three days.
Sombat Butr-eed, the village chief of Moo 2 in tambon Ao Nang, said the attack on the boy was not the first, according to Naew Na Online. He said he had informed officials to take the dogs away from the beach but the problem remained unresolved.
Ao Nang and neighbouring Nopparat Thara beaches have more than 20 stray dogs left behind by construction workers, he added.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Thursday skipped his last schedule during a visit to the province to visit the boy before he returned to Bangkok.
