Stray dog who attacked goat shot dead in street by heartless wardens

A stray dog was coldly shot dead in the street after it attacked a goat and a soldier.

Distressing footage from Malaysia shows a brown dog writhing on the ground with blood pouring out of its body.

A council worker stands with his arms folded as the dog lives out its final moments in pain.

According to a spokeperson for Ipoh City Council in northwestern Malaysia, the stray hound had met its grisly fate after the attacks on May 22.

“One dog was put down there to resolve the complaint,” they said, noting that the shooting was legal under the city's Dog Licensing Bylaw.

“City folk are urged to help resolve the issues with stray dogs in their respective areas."

The explanation was not well received by animal welfare campaigners on social media.

One woman wrote: "I'm just speechless and sad to see this happen.

"I just hope the higher authority will look into this issue seriously. It is not healthy to kill innocent animals in public."

Another simply wrote: "What the hell is this..? Damm cruel."

Dogs are generally viewed in a different way in Malaysia than in the West, according to SCMP.

In July 2017 the country's Islamic Development Department issued a strongly worded statement condemning Nurhanizah Abdul Rahman.

The headscarf wearing member of the nation's majority Malay-Muslim community had rescued a dog from a mass culling and posed alongside it for a video entry to a pet food competition.

Othman Mustapha, the director-general of Jakim, said touching dogs on purpose and without reason was forbidden by Islam.

He added that Nurhanizah had caused distress among the Muslim community.

In October the year before the same religious body had demanded hot dog sellers rename their products.
