Stray dog found in Wishaw street as SSPCA appeal to trace owners

The SSPCA has launched an appeal to trace the owners of a dog found straying in Wishaw.

The Bichon Frise was found by a member of the public in Stewarton Street and taken to the police station.

She is currently being cared for at the charity's centre in Lanarkshire. She does not have a microchip. She is believed to be between five and eight years old.

The charity's post read: "Please note, this is not a rehoming post. We are trying to trace this animal's owners. Please only contact us if you have relevant information.

"This female dog was found on Stewarton Street, Wishaw on 1 June.

"She is now in the care of our Lanarkshire centre, if you recognise her please call 03000 999 999."

We reported this week how a dog buried alive and left for dead in the Highlands got a new home in Glasgow.

Jake the border collie's cries were heard by hillwalkers, who found him under a pile of rocks. The Scottish SPCA inspector involved called it "truly one of the worst cases I have ever experienced".

The Scottish SPCA receives no government funding and is entirely reliant on donations from the public.
