Stray dog blocks goal at football match in Scotland

A stray dog was named ‘man of the match’ after running onto the pitch during an amateur football game in Scotland and blocking a goal.

The hilarious incident took place when Vale of Leven AFC took on Ferguslie Star at the Argyle Park pitches in Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, on Wednesday evening.

Video footage captured the moment a Paisley-based striker approached the goal before the golden retriever type dog bolted onto the pitch, reports The Daily Record.

The animal blocked the ball on the line before fleeing the scene - presumably back to its mortified owner.

Despite the ball being punted into the net by another Ferguslie Star player, the referee disallowed the goal due to interference from an ‘outside agent’.

Despite losing 3-2, the amateur side saw the funny side of it and uploaded the footage onto social media.

The video has since been viewed more than 25,000 times.

The striker sent the ball sailing past the keeper - only for it to be blocked by the four-legged 'player' (Ferguslie Star)

After sharing the original post, Vale of Leven AFC tweeted: “Match Result Vale of Leven 3-2 @Ferguslie_Star Goals Ross Davies X2 Bryan Dornan.

“A couple of late goals and a little help from a stray dog seen us pick up 3 points in the group.”

They later shared an image of a dog with a football and said: “Shout out to tonight's man of the match for his goal line clearance.”
