April 13--Strawdog Theatre Company announced its 2015-16 season on Monday. It's a diverse array of shows, from a riff on August Strindberg to one of George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart's largest comedies.
Beginning the season in the summer is "After Miss Julie" (Aug. 14-Sept. 26), playwright Patrick Marber's take on Strindberg's "Miss Julie," in a production directed by Elly Green.
Next is "The Long Christmas Ride Home" (Oct. 30-Dec. 12) by Paula Vogel. Vogel's play draws on a number of theatrical techniques and traditions to tell the story of a family's difficult Christmas Eve. Josh Sobel will direct at Strawdog.
Then comes "In A Word" (Feb. 5-March 19) by Lauren Yee, whose "Samsara" was recently seen at Victory Gardens Theater. In Yee's drama, directed by Jess McLeod, a woman must deal with the disappearance of her son.
The last show of the main season is Kaufman and Hart's "Once In A Lifetime" (May 1-June 13), a big-cast Hollywood satire set during the advent of the "talkies." The comedy will be directed by Damon Kiely.
There are four additional shows that will be performed in Strawdog's Hugen Hall space: "With Love and a Major Organ" (Sept. 12-Oct. 13) by Julie Lederer, directed by Thrisa Hodits; "Robin Hood and Maid Marian" (Nov. 23-Dec. 23) adapted from Alfred Lord Tennyson's "The Foresters" by Forks Home, directed by Matt Pierce; "D.O.A." (March 5-April 5), adapted from Rudolph Mate's film by Elizabeth Lovelady; and "The Name of the Rabbit was Peter" (May 21-June 21) adapted and directed by Sarah Illiatovich-Goldman.
Strawdog Theatre Company is located at 3829 N. Broadway St. Tickets go on sale July 1.
