Mattie is the cousin of the hopeless and dreamy Maya but luckily Maya has Mattie to look after her. For this reason, Mattie has always been the more reliable one and most of the time it is her job to look after Maya. But when Maya develops a ridiculous crush, she will do anything to get Jake to notice her however crazy it seems. Now it is Mattie’s job to try and make Maya see sense but things are not as easy as they seem. Can Mattie make Maya see sense before it’s too late?
Jean Ure’s Strawberry Crush is a HILARIOUS book with so many twists and turns. The title may give you the impression that this is a type of teenage romance book but if you thought that you are wrong. This book is more of a funny romance about a girl called Maya who has developed a crush on an 18 year old boy (and may I just say that Maya is only 12).
This crazy book will take you on a hilarious adventure that you will never forget. I finished this book in about 2 hours and I am not quite sure why. It wasn’t because it was such a good book, it was more that it was a story that was meant to be read in one go. It wasn’t that thick either. But either way I really enjoyed this book. The characters in it really add a splash of colour and one character in particular will have you in hysterics.
I loved that the story didn’t have a giant, complicated plot but more just a casual every day one. I felt like I could be reading the true story of some random girl because it could easily be that.
I would recommend this book for ages 10 and up just because it is more of a high school read and if you are younger you might not find it that interesting. If you like a book that’s funny, surprising, unusual love story and just plain crazy then this book is for you.
