Strathaven keep fitters ready to hoop and cheer for pal Michele

Friends and family of Michele Osborne are set to raise money in her honour at their own adapted Race For Life event this weekend.

We told you in December how loved ones of the keen runner helped her meet her goal of completing 100 Park Runs runs before she passed.

Having beaten breast cancer once before, Michele was struck down with secondary lung cancer.

She fought valiantly throughout, continuing to run and refusing to let her illness dictate what she wanted to do until her passing in December.

She was even named Strathaven Striders’ runner of the year.

Now, spearheaded by Eclipse Fitness owner Naomi Watt, pals will ‘power hoop’ a 5k in Michele’s honour.

This weekend would have been the Race For Life event in Glasgow that gym members attend annually, hopping round the city in aid of Cancer Research.

But, having been cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Naomi has this year arranged a 12 hour virtual hoopathon relay for Sunday.

Starting at 7am, each of the 20 team members will do a one hour shift before ‘passing the baton’ via Skype before finishing as a class at 7pm together.

So far they have raised over £2000, with ‘hooper’ Sandra Smith shaving her head to raise more funds.
