Strathaven Golf Club will play host to the Scottish Girls Amateur Championships next month.
From Thursday, July 15 to Sunday, July 18, the best under-18 female golfers in the country will battle it out on the local course.
The prestigious tournament consists of two rounds of strokeplay on the Friday, which then leads to the top 16 qualifying to play in the matchplay knockout over the weekend.
And there will be local interest with Strathaven Golf Club junior member, Lindsay Main –who has a handicap of 12 and works as a waitress in the clubhouse – competing in the event, which has been re-arranged after being postponed from July 2020 due to Covid restrictions.
Strathaven GC’s general manager Stuart Fairgrieve said: “The club are very proud to be hosting another National Amateur Championship.
“It has been the venue for County and National events in the past, including the Scottish Professional Golf Championships in 1972 and 1978, the British Ladies Amateur Championship in 1990, and the Girls’ Home Internationals in 2004.
“We are fortunate to have an excellent Head Greenkeeper in Stephen Hunter who has been with the club for 28 years and has maintained the golf course to such a level that we are capable of hosting these types of events.
“We’re very grateful to Scottish Golf for the opportunity to host their tournament.”
