Strathaven coach Grant Neilson says he hopes Scottish Rugby’s decision to scrap the league season results in his side winning West League 2, but admits it’s tough for the governing body to come to a resolution.
The W3ST side were top of West League 2 by 15 points over second-place Dalziel, but the Motherwell side had four games in hand when rugby was suspended due to the coronavirus crisis.
Neilson says his side have worked hard this season and he would like to see a reward, but acknowledges that no matter what the decision is, somebody will be left disappointed.
He said: “What I’ve heard is that they will hopefully come to a decision within the next week or so. They’ve emailed clubs with a choice of what could happen, and it will be voted on.
“I would not want to be in Scottish Rugby’s shoes, because no matter what they go with, somebody is going to be disappointed.
“The boys have worked so hard, and it would be great if they finish the league as it is, but there are more teams involved in this than just us, plus there is the relegation thing to think about, and a lot of teams have games in hand.
“It’s going to be a tough decision, whatever it is that is made.
“If the league was declared completely void I would be disappointed for the lads, because they have put so much effort into this season.
“I hope it’s a decision that goes in our favour, but there are some tough decisions to make.”
