Strathaven boozer scoops CAMRA Lanarkshire Pub of the Year for fifth year running

A Lanarkshire pub is celebrating after scooping a Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) award for the fifth year running.

The Weavers in Strathaven was crowned Lanarkshire Pub of the Year for 2022.

Owners of the community pub have raised a glass to their loyal customers and thanked them for their amazing support once again.

It's not the first time the local boozer has been in the CAMRA spotlight recently. Last year, it received one of only 32 prestigious Golden Awards by the organisation who celebrated their 50th anniversary by dishing out the accolades in 2021.

The pub was bought back in 1980 by Sarah Smith and husband Jimmy. They decided then to change its name from The Crown Hotel to The Weavers as a nod to Strathaven's traditional industry.

The couple's children Brendan and Maureen took over the day-to-day running of the pub in 2005 and it has went from strength to strength as a hub for the community.

A spokesperson from The Weavers said: "We’re delighted to announce that we’ve been crowned CAMRA Lanarkshire Pub of the Year 2022 - the fifth year in a row!"

They later added: "Thanks to everyone who has passed on their congratulations to us after we were named CAMRA Lanarkshire Pub of the Year 2022 earlier in the week - your continued support is very much appreciated!"

The pub has been recognised as the best pub in Lanarkshire on several occasions throughout the years.

Since the brother-and-sister duo took over in 2005, the pub has grown in its success and is a much-loved establishment within the Strathaven community.

Maureen believes the popular boozer has been rewarded for the varied selection of ales and their community spirit.

Earlier this year, The Weavers was also named the best pub in Glasgow and the West by CAMRA.

They now go on to compete with fellow branch winners in Scotland and Northern Ireland to be crowned pub of the year overall.

It was the first time they had scooped the Best in Glasgow and the West prize.

And as well as being no stranger to picking up awards, The Weavers has found itself in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide, a platform signposting some of the best establishments across the UK. The pub has appeared in this for over 20 years.

The popular community venue is described as an: "award-winning, family-run pub specialising in real ales situated in the heart of Strathaven."

CAMRA's mission is 'to have quality real ale, cider and perry and thriving pubs in every community'.
