Strathallan School serves up surprise festive treats for nursing home residents

Big-hearted kitchen staff at Strathallan School served-up welcome Christmas cheer for residents at a local nursing home.

Fifth form pupil Rebecca Johnstone delivered afternoon tea goodies to the Moncreiffe Care Home in Bridge of Earn.

Scones, cakes and other tasty treats were handed over to chef Aaron Watt.

Rebecca (15) said: “We have strong links with the home and just wanted to do our bit to cheer up residents and staff in the countdown to Christmas.”

Nursing home chef Aaron said: “It is a lovely gesture by the school – and I might even get an afternoon off now to do my Christmas shopping.”

Moncreiffe manager Judith Meaden said the Strathallan gifts would be served-up with seasonal mulled wine.

“We are determined to do our very best to give our 26 residents a special Festive season,” said Judith.

“So the early Christmas present from Strathallan was a nice surprise.

“Obviously the ever-changing COVID rules and regulations continue to pose challenges for staff and the families of our residents.

“Last Christmas we couldn’t even put-up the usual decorations around the home.

“The pandemic has made things very difficult but we are determined to give our residents a memorable Christmas this year, full of surprises and fun.

“We are a home from home for our elderly residents and at times the rules have made it difficult for families to call in and visit their loved ones, whether they are local or from further afield.

“It has been an emotional time for staff and for families alike as we carefully follow the ‘Open With Care’ guidelines.

“It’s sad that we can’t lay on our traditional buffet for families but we are planning a Christmas party for all our residents to enjoy.”
