Stratford International: Paramedics rush to station after woman gives birth on board train

Paramedics were called to an east London station after a woman gave birth on board a train.

The train stopped at Stratford International on Thursday evening while it waited for an ambulance crew to meet it there.

Southeastern said other services into London were unable to stop at the station while paramedics attended to the woman and her newborn.

“Congratulations to mother and child”, a spokesperson added.

The paramedics arrived at the station at around 9.30pm and took the mother and baby to a nearby hospital.

The train was able to continue its journey to St Pancras shortly after 10pm, with other trains on the line delayed as a result.

It added: “If your train is unable to stop at Stratford International while the ambulance crew welcome the new born to the world, you can change at St Pancras for the first train back to Stratford."
