Stratford Festival announces casting of musicals and "Shakespeare in Love"

Oct. 27--The Stratford Festival has announced additional casting for the 2016 season.

Olivier Award-winning director Declan Donnellan opens the season with "Shakespeare in Love," the adaptation of the Oscar-winning film about the Bard's imagined romances. The North American premiere production will star return Stratford performers Luke Humphrey as Shakespeare, Shannon Taylor as Viola de Lesseps and Stephen Ouimette as Henslowe. Tom McCamus, returning to the festival after starring in the new film "Room," will play Fennyman.

Dayna Tietzen and Juan Chioran will star as old flames Cassie and Zach in Donna Feore's production of "A Chorus Line." Tietzen is best known from the U.S. National Tour of "War Horse" and Chioran was recently seen in Stratford's "Love's Labour's Lost" and "Hamlet."

Gary Griffin will direct the final musical of the season, "A Little Night Music." Sondheim's take on Bergman's romantic comedy will star Ben Carlson as Fredrik Egerman, Cynthia Dale as Countess Charlotte Malcolm and Yanna McIntosh as Desiree Armfeldt, all long-time Stratford performers. The production will also feature Juan Chioran as Carl-Magnus, Sara Farb as Petra and Alexis Gordon as Anne.

Tickets for the season go on sale to the general public on Jan. 8, 2016.
