Lake Macquarie residents are being called upon to provide feedback about the city's sparkling blue centrepiece, including whether they want more netted facilities in the lake.
The callout is to help in the development of Lake Macquarie City Council's Lake Activation Strategy, which will guide how the lake, foreshore and supporting infrastructure are managed, enhanced and promoted.
The strategy will explore the potential for new infrastructure, events and initiatives.
Manager asset management Brendan Callander said council wanted to develop a plan to make best use of the lake and its foreshore, while respecting and protecting its delicate ecosystems.
The possibility of additional netted bathing areas was raised earlier this year after a shark attacked a man swimming at Yarrawonga Park in January - the first recorded shark attack in the lake in more than 50 years.
"We would like to hear from the community about whether they would like to see additional netted bathing areas," Mr Callander said.
"But the Lake Activation Strategy will cover much more than that. I'd encourage everyone to get online and have their say."
The new Lake Activation Strategy will apply to Lake Macquarie, including Swansea Channel, council foreshore land and infrastructure and government and privately-owned aquatic facilities accessible to the public.
"It won't apply to our beaches, or parts of Lake Mac that fall within Central Coast Council's area," Mr Callander said.
