Darvel's first-ever Scottish Cup adventure will continue after an historic victory over SPFL side Stranraer.
The sixth-tier West of Scotland League side put Jamie Hamill's League Two team out of the famous competition in their own backyard this afternoon.
And the Vale fans are heading up the A77 delighted after Jordan Allan's header ended up being the only goal of the game at Stair Park.
Championship sides enter the Scottish Cup in tomorrow's draw – meaning Darvel could face either Kilmarnock or Ayr United in an Ayrshire derby.
The visitors almost took the lead after just nine minutes when Jordan Kirkpatrick picked up the ball 18 yards out; his low fizzing effort went incredibly close but it was just an inch wide of the post.
Chances were scarce but it was Darvel who took the lead in the 38th minute thanks to former Stranraer defender Allan who headed in at the back post after a trademark Darren Miller cross.
The hosts were close to equalising almost instantly as Matty Yates fired a shot from distance but it fell wide of Chris Truesdale’s post.
Andy Stirling had an incredible opportunity to double Darvel’s lead in the 70th minute as he cut inside to fire a curling effort towards goal but Luke Scullion got down well to hold the effort.
In the 76th minute, Allan Mackenzie looked certain to finish the game off as he ended up one-on-one with Scullion but the stopper tipped the effort away for a corner.
Meanwhile, Auchinleck Talbot join Darvel in the third round following a 2-0 win at East of Scotland League hopefuls Preston Athletic at Pennypit Park. Keir Samson and Jamie Glasgow were on the scoresheet in the second half.
