Stranglers are playing their final ever Bristol show tonight

The Stranglers have embarked on their final ever UK Tour following the release of their latest album 'Dark Matters'.

And tonight they will play their final ever show in Bristol, when they perform at the O2 Academy for one last hurrah.

A Stranglers gig has become a staple of the gigging calendar here in Bristol over recent years. And a night out that involves donning your finest worn-out leather jacket and starting things off at The Hatchet just over the road, where you enjoy a pint and reminisce about music gone by.

Bristolians have been going to Stranglers concerts for years - and people have been flocking from elsewhere in the country to see them perform. And you can definitely tell when a Stranglers veteran is among you.

They've played at the Academy many times and even had a couple of stints at the Locarno and The Granary back in the eighties.

Tonight's gig is extra bittersweet as it had been postponed from Friday, October 23, 2020 and then again from Tuesday, April 6, 2021 all because of Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdown.

Fans also never got to see the late great Dave Greenfield perform one last time. Dave, the band's legendary keyboardist, sadly passed away on May 3, 2020 at the age of 71 after being diagnosed with Covid-19.

He had played with the band for 45 years and even celebrated his 70th birthday at the Bristol gig at the O2 Academy in 2019 (albeit a day late) with a rendition of 'Happy Birthday' sung for him by the crowd.

Tonight's Bristol show, with support from Ruts DC, is completely sold out, but their shows at Sheffield, (Feb 24), Leicester (Feb 25), Nottingham (Mar 23) and Cardiff (Mar 25) still have tickets available. You can browse them here.
