Strangford incident sees man taken to hospital as car removed from water

Police and other emergency services are currently dealing with an incident in Co Down after a car entered the water at Strangford Harbour.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said one person has been taken to hospital following the incident.

A spokesperson said it dispatched two Emergency crews, one HART team and one HART officer to the scene.

The charity air ambulance was also tasked, along with Portaferry RNLI and Portaferry Coastguard who recovered the casualty from the water.

Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one male patient has been brought to Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast by road ambulance.

The car is currently being removed from the water.

Kellie Armstrong MLA said she was "shocked to hear" the news about the ongoing emergency operation.

She added: "I’m aware the Coastguard rescued one person who has been taken to hospital. I hope the person is not injured and makes a speedy recovery."
