Strangford Ferry to return to full schedule

The Strangford Ferry will return to its pre-Covid schedule - but with reduced capacity, the Infrastructure Minister has announced.

The number of sailings was cut back in April because of coronavirus.

But the normal timetable will be back from Monday, August 10.

Passengers will be required to wear a face mask, and payments will be contactless only.

Nichola Mallon said: "Since April, in response to the Covid-19 public health emergency, it was necessary to operate reduced sailings across Strangford Lough. I am pleased to announce that a normal schedule can be put back in place starting from Monday 10 August.

"While this means a return to the normal ferry timetable, passengers are reminded that the service will continue to be operated in line with public health advice regarding social distancing measures, which means reduced capacity on board.

"Passengers are also reminded of the requirement to keep vehicle windows closed or wear a face-covering if in the passenger compartment while using the service. Payment will continue to be accepted by contactless card or ferry SmartCard only.

"The health and safety of passengers and crew is of paramount importance at all times.

"This is a very popular service and I am grateful to the local community for their support and patience during these unprecedented times."
