A mum-of-three has told how strangers mistake her for her husband's daughter because of a 30-year age gap between them.
Devin Kennedy, 29, and her husband Tommy, 59, fell in love after meeting through a mutual friend nine years ago.
Initially, they kept their relationship a secret for a year because they were worried people would judge them due to their age gap.
Devin says strangers often think her husband is actually her dad - and even mistake their kids for being Tommy's grandchildren.
The stay-at-home mum from Cape Canaveral, Florida, had her son Logan, 14, before meeting Tommy - and now the pair have welcomed two children, Serenity, seven, and Kadence, five.
Devin said that when she met Tommy they both fell in love quickly and she soon understood she was developing feelings for him.
She said: "I didn't know how to process that I was having feelings for someone so much older.
"I hid my feelings for a while because I didn't want him to know, but I eventually told him. It just blossomed from there.
"Tommy never worried too much about our age gap, but he did get a bit of flak from some people in his life."
Devin said some people think she is after something other than love, such as money, which made her worried at the beginning.
But after building a family together, the pair laugh whenever they receive strange looks while out and about.
The woman explained: "I was definitely worried about what society would think. I didn't tell anyone or post anything on social media the first year we were together.
"I'd been a teen mum and used to being judged. Eventually I got to a point where I thought 'you know what? Who cares.
"Our family is doing well and we love each other more than anything. That was all that mattered."
Their age gap presents some challenges as strangers often refer to Tommy as Devin's father, she says, but now they have started to laugh about it because they are happy with their life.
Devin said that it took a little while for her dad to come around to the idea of her dating someone who is older than him.
But after meeting Tommy a few times, she was relieved that both of her parents liked him and were happy for her.
She said: "I'm very close to my family. My mum was always good about it, but it was an adjustment for my dad.
"I'm one of five kids, and Tommy is a little older than my dad, so that was hard for him.
"But once he realised what a good man he is, and none of this was for the wrong reasons, everyone was happy for me."
The loved-up pair got engaged in 2013 and finally tied the knot at a beautiful small beach wedding in October 2020.
Now Devin and Tommy are sharing their story to help break down misconceptions surrounding age-gap relationships and to prove that love is love, no matter what it might look like.
She said: "At the end of the day, we just want a successful relationship and to succeed together in life.
"Before meeting Tommy, I'd had boyfriends my age but I never really clicked with them in the same way.
"I adore Tommy's drive. He has passion and wants things in life.
"Seeing him be a father melts my heart. He is so gentle and cares about everybody, that is what made me fall in love with him.
"You can never judge a book by its cover. You don't know anyone's story.
"Whether it's an age-gap, biracial or same-sex relationship, love is love and that is all that matters.
"We adore each other and I'm happier than I've ever been. I feel very lucky."
