Strangers fire dad's ashes over Creamfields crowd after receiving note from his family

The ashes of a dad-of-one who took his own life before Creamfields were fired out of a confetti during the festival.

As headliner Tiesto played his set, the remains of 30-year-old Stuart Mitchell were scattered into the crowd of up to 70,000 ravers.

The keen gamer from Norwich took his own life in July, and had been set to attend the annual festival in Halton, Merseyside this year, the ECHO reports.

He had already purchased his tickets ahead of the Bank Holiday party.

After Stuart's death, his ticket was re-advertised online and purchased by complete strangers to Stuart - cousins Ryan and Liam Millen, from Liverpool.

The tickets arrived in an envelope together with an unexpected second envelope which contained some of Stuart's ashes.

Stuart's family asked the lads to spread the ashes around Creamfields, as it was an event he loved attending.

Ryan then subsequently arranged for a banner to be made, bearing the dad-of-one's photograph holding his three-year-old son Oliver, with the message: "This last dance is for you mate."

After carrying the banner around the festival all weekend, Ryan managed to get it on main stage before organisers suggested firing out Stuart's ashes out of a confetti cannon by Tiesto during his headlining finale.

"Words cannot express our gratitude to his family for allowing us, to everyone who listened to his story and took pictures with the banner, and most importantly to the Creamfields production team for going above and beyond to accommodate us and go out of their way to allow us to honour his memory in such a fitting way," Ryan said.

"Stuart Mitchell, we are humbled to have been allowed to help you complete your journey with us.

"You will forever be a part of one of your favourite places.

"A piece of you always be with Creamfields."

The Millens later found out that Tiesto's version of Adagio For Strings had been played at his funeral and they have become firm friends of the Mitchell family since news of their accomplishments emerged.

Ryan, 34, added: "I'm bowled over by what happened.

"When Stuart's ashes were fired out, my heart literally skipped a beat, I was lost for words and beside myself.

"We were privileged to honour him in such a way."

An online campaign is now underway to raise money for an online memorial to Stuart - to donate, visit here.
