Stranger tried to get schoolboy into his car at home time by telling him he's his uncle

A warning has been issued to parents after a man tried to entice a seven-year-old into his car by telling the boy he was his uncle.

The incident is understood to have happened at a school in Royton, Oldham, on Tuesday afternoon.

According to an email sent to parents via Parentmail, the man told the boy to get into his car as he walked around the grounds at home time.

But the youngster ran off and told a teacher.

When staff went to investigate, the man was gone.

The email was sent out by St Joseph's RC Primary School, however it is understood the incident occurred at another school.

It urged parents to discuss 'stranger danger' with their children and read: "It has been reported to school that yesterday, a seven-year-old child was approached at a school in Royton by a male 'stranger'.

"The stranger told the boy he was his uncle and told him to get in his car as he was walking around the school at home time.

"Luckily, the boy knew about stranger danger and ran away to tell a teacher.

"By the time the teacher had been informed and came out of the school, the man disappeared.

"This is a warning that, although we rarely hear of these instances, we need to make our children aware of the dangers they may face.

"Please speak with your children at an age appropriate level about stranger danger.

"We will be reminding children about this in school."

The email did not contain a description of the man.
