Stranger Things stars hint a major character could be killed off in new season

Stranger Things stars have hinted a major character could be killed off - as the fourth series of the hit Netflix sci-fi drama hits our screens this Friday (May 27).

Actors Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven, and Noah Schnapp (Will Byers) both believe at least one big player could die by the time the show wraps up in season five.

Talking to American news website TheWrap, Schnapp said the cast was "too big" and "they need to kill off some people".

"We're all afraid of one of us dying. One of us will die," he ominously said.

Brown agreed, saying “I know, it’s just which one?”

Schnapp joked: "We need to have one massacre scene where half the cast dies."

But Brown thought this was too much, and suggested the show’s creators – the Duffer Brothers – were "too sensitive" to kill off even one cast member.

"We need to be Game of Thrones. We need to have the mindset of Game of Thrones" Brown said, with Schnapp adding: "And just kill a main, main character."

There's more trouble in Hawkins in season four of Stranger Things (Netflix)

"They tried killing David (Harbour) off and they brought him back. It’s ridiculous!" added Brown.

The eagerly-anticipated season four sees the penultimate instalment of the popular franchise released in two halves, with the second half dropping on July 1.

There will be a total of nine episodes in all, with some feature-length. The season four finale is widely rumoured to have a hefty runtime of almost two and a half hours.

Stranger Things follows a group of friends and their guardians as they delve deep into strange paranormal happenings in the fictional rural town of Hawkins, Indiana.

Taking its cue from classic 80s horror films and leading genre novelist Stephen King, the show’s appeal has a broad appeal that spans the generations.

Series four picks up half a year on from the season 3 finale - after Eleven lost her telekinetic powers.

Netflix ’s official synopsis says: "Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn't made things any easier.

“In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”

The imminent season features a large ensemble cast including leading lady Millie Bobby Brown alongside Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer, Maya Hawke, Charlie Heaton, Winona Ryder and David Harbour.

*Stranger Things season 4 will premiere in two parts on Netflix – this Friday May 27 and July 1.
