Stranger Things star Sadie Sink speaks out on how major season three death will affect her character Max

Warning: the story below includes major spoilers for Stranger Things season three.

Stranger Things star Sadie Sink has reacted to the death of a major character in the show’s third season, reflecting on how the loss will impact her own part in the future.

Sink plays Max in the Netflix series, which returned for its third season on 4 July.

This instalment ended with the shocking death of Billy Hargrove, played by Dacre Montgomery.

Max is Billy’s younger stepsister in the show, meaning that his death – as Sink told Teen Vogue – understandably leaves her traumatised.

However, Max is seen in a scene set three months after Billy’s death acting happily with Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), which Sink initially found odd.

“I remember reading that scene and I was like, ‘What’s going on? Wait. Did she not... Did her brother not just die?’” she told the magazine.

Eventually, though, Sink managed to make sense of the moment with regards to Max’s background.

“I think it makes sense for her, because that’s kind of as messed up as their relationship was,” she added.

“[Billy’s death] still really affects the dynamic within her family. But in true Max fashion, she’s not going to let anyone see how she’s really feeling at some points.

“You see her just pretending that everything’s fine, when really, everything’s changed for her. She’s in a completely different emotional head space.”

Stranger Things’ season three is out on Netflix now.

The streaming platform has yet to officially announce season four, though producer Shawn Levy has suggested it will happen.
