Stranger Things star Maya Hawke thinks her parents' generation 'really f***ed us over'

Actor Maya Hawke has spoken of her generation’s frustration towards that of her parents, claiming they were all just “high and driving around in cool, gas-guzzling cars”.

“They had it so easy,” the 21-year-old Stranger Things star toldNylonmagazine. “Destroying our environment … and having no wars, and no plagues and no pandemics.”

“We’re in our twenties, we’re supposed to be having fun, and doing drugs and partying,” she continued. "But instead we’re going to SoulCycle and trying to outlive our planet. We have a horrible president, and it’s just really irritating. They really f***ed us.”

During the interview, Hawke, who is the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, said she felt the vision of the Hollywood movie star has become less apparent in recent years.

“It’s not so glamorous anymore,” she said. “There’s almost no such thing as a movie star anymore. There can be an appearance of one for a second. Now there’s a bajillion actors with a following. It’s a lot more everyman.”

Among Hawke’s most recent roles was in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, opposite Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio.
