Fans of popular series Stranger Things could be in for a treat when season four returns to screens as the Netflix show is believed to be making a comeback with a huge nine-episode run.
The new season may contain one more episode than initially planned, according to TVLine - though the news has not been confirmed by Netflix.
Along with the second season, which was also nine episodes, the fourth outing of the sci-fi drama could be the joint biggest yet.
Season two included an episode entitled The Lost Sister - which focused on a story which was no connected to the season’s main narrative, which some fans were unhappy about.
The new season could do something similar however, with reports a fan favourite may get an origin story told in one or more of those nine episodes, though the character has not been confirmed.
Matt and Ross Duffer, who produce the show, have previously suggested Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and the gang could take a short cut to Russia from the States, with Matt telling EW the new season will “open up a little bit… in terms of allowing portals into areas outside of Hawkins."
Upon Stranger Things being officially renewed for a fourth season in September 2019, Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos was full of praise for the nostalgic 1980s-based series.
He said: “The Duffer Brothers have captivated viewers around the world with Stranger Things and we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with them to bring their vivid imaginations to other film and series projects our members will love.
“We can’t wait to see what The Duffer Brothers have in store when they step outside the world of The Upside Down.”
