Stranger Things season 4 teaser: Netflix confirms hit sci-fi series has been renewed

Stranger Things has officially been renewed for a fourth season after almost three months of heavy speculation.

The Twitter account for the show’s writers announced the news on Monday in a message reading: “Stranger Things 4 – it’s happening!

“We have an awesome team working on ST4 and we can’t wait to share it with you.

“Thank you for your passion and your love for our show... let’s keep that curiosity door open, yeah? After all, we’re not in Hawkins anymore...”

A teaser was also dropped, where it was revealed that "we're not in Hawkins anymore".

Showrunners had yet to confirm that a fourth season was underway following the show’s third instalment, which debuted on 4 July on Netflix.

Nevertheless, fans were convinced that the science-fiction hit would return. Executive producer and director Shawn Levy told Collider in April 2018 that season four was “definitely happening”, adding: ”There’s very much the possibility of a season beyond that one, that’s currently undecided.”

This means that many fan theories have emerged as to what might unfold in season four of Stranger Things. Many have focused on the identity of “the American”, an anonymous character mentioned at the very end of the third season.

Netflix has yet to announce a release date for this fourth season, but some believe that a hidden message in season three suggests that the show will return in 2020.

Some have wondered whether season one’s Dr Brenner will come back in the next season, while many have been left wondering if Jim Hopper is really dead after a dramatic season three finale.
