Stranger Things season 3 release date delayed

The wait for the third season of Stranger Things just got a little longer.

Netflix programming executive Cindy Holland has confirmed that the science-fiction smash will return next Summer, rather than early next year as presumed by fans.

“It’s a handcrafted show,” Holland said, speaking at the Television Critics Association’s press tour, according to EW.

“[Showrunnners] The Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy, they understand the stakes are high. They want to deliver something bigger and better than last year. I think it’s going to be a fantastic season. It will be worth the wait.”

Holland also noted that the upcoming series will have many more special effects than the previous two, adding: “It’s a really exciting season, just takes a little more time,” she said.

Earlier this month, the first teaser for season three was released online, featuring the ultra-80s Starcourt Mall, a new development in Hawkins where Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) works; in an ice cream store called Scoops Ahoy, alongside new character Robin (Maya Hawke).

Stranger Things returns Summer 2019.
