Stranger snatches tot from mum's garden with helicopter search launched

Police are hunting a stranger who attempted to snatch a two-year-old boy from his front garden.

Officers were called to a report that an adult, believed to be female, had picked up the child from the front garden of the property in the Yorkshire village and walked away with him at approximately 12.30pm on Tuesday September 7.

The tot's mother heard the commotion of what was happening and ran on to the road in Eggborough to challenge the person, who then proceeded to drop the boy before running off.

Yorkshire Live reports the toddler was not injured during the incident.

North Yorkshire Police responded to the report immediately, and a large number of officers were deployed to search the village and surrounding area, supported by the NPAS police helicopter.

However, the suspect was not located.

The suspect is described as white and skinny with long dark hair tied back in a bun.

They were wearing a blue baseball cap, white shirt with blue sleeves, jogging bottoms and white trainers.

Extensive inquiries are ongoing to identify and locate them.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “This is clearly a concerning incident.

"Although incidents like this are rare, please be vigilant, and contact us if you have any information that could assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting reference 12210197086.
