Stranger offers young girl money for her to follow him as she walks to school

A girl walking to school yesterday was "offered money" to follow a stranger.

The man approached the youngster at around 9am, talked to her and offered her the cash.

Bishop Vaughan Catholic School in Swansea, south Wales, became aware of the incident and warned parents, Wales Online reports.

Police were also alerted.

The school's text read: "An incident occurred this morning that has been reported to us and the police.

"A pupil was walking to school, was approached by a male who stopped to speak with her and offered her money to follow him.

"Without trying to alarm pupils, we will speak with them and advise that on journeys to and from school they should not walk alone unless unavoidable and report any concerns to parents, police and us ASAP."

A spokesman for the school, which caters for more than 1,300 kids, said: "Pupil safety is our top priority and as soon as we became aware of the incident we immediately contacted the police."

The girl had been approached by the stranger in a car, South Wales Police said.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "We received a report that a young girl had been approached by a man in a car between Lon Hafren and Lon Claerwen on Monday morning at about 9am.

"We are investigating this report and anyone with information should contact 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence 1900247040."
