Stranger hacks Ring security camera and yells 'wake up, I can see you in bed'

A woman was left terrified after her Ring security camera was hacked as a man shouted "wake up, I can see you in bed" at her.

The petrified woman, who wished to remain unnamed, said she had bought the camera to watch her young puppy but the hacker managed to gain access and yelled into the house demanding she "wake the f*** up".

He then started talking to the dog, saying "hello, hello, come here puppy", while the terrified victim recorded him.

She reported what happened to the police and Ring, which reportedly told the woman's boyfriend that his information had probably been stolen.

They had been hacked at least four times in three weeks, according to the pair, but it is unclear if it was by the same person.

The woman from Georgia, US, told local media : "I was laying there and had just put him in his crate, and I hear a cough over the Ring camera."

"I see the blue light come on, so I text my boyfriend saying, ‘Why are you watching? We're laying down, and we're about to go to sleep', and he's like, ‘what are you talking about?'."

In a statement to WSB-TV , Ring said: "Customer trust is important to us and we take the security of our devices seriously.

"While we are still investigating this issue and are taking appropriate steps to protect our devices based on our investigation, we are able to confirm this incident is in no way related to a breach or compromise of Ring's security."

Using identical usernames and passwords for numerous accounts can make it easier for hackers to gain access, they added, so users should ensure they are regularly changed.

The statement continues: "Ring has investigated this incident and has taken appropriate actions to remove the bad actors from all affected accounts. All affected users have been contacted."

In another incident involving a Ring camera, a male voice reportedly told eight-year-old Alyssa "I'm your best friend, I'm Santa Clause." (6 ABC)

The chilling incident follows a similar case in Mississippi, in which Ashley LeMay recorded a hacker talking to her eight-year-old daughter through a Ring security camera, reported the Mail Online .

She released footage which shows her daughter shouting "who is that?" when a haunting tune starts to play, following which a male voice says: "I'm your best friend, I'm Santa Clause."

Ashley told WBC : "They could have watched them sleeping, changing. I mean they could have seen all kinds of things."

The family released the footage to warn others, while investigators and Ring are both tracking down the hacker.
