‘Strange’ - Nottingham Forest fans baffled by key man’s absence

Nottingham Forest fans have been reacting to the big pre-match team news that Samba Sow has failed to make the grade to face Huddersfield Town.

Ben Watson returned to the starting line-up as the Reds play their first home game since the season’s restart.

The midfielder had missed the 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday after picking up a knock, but returned to the XI against Huddersfield Town as head coach Sabri Lamouchi made just the one change.

But there was no return for Sow, who was again left out of the squad, having continued to struggle with a knee problem.

Watson took the place of Ryan Yates, who dropped to the bench against the Terriers as the Reds looked to get back to winning ways.

In an empty City Ground, with the match taking place behind closed doors, Brice Samba once again took up his spot between the posts.

Matty Cash, Tobias Figueiredo, Joe Worrall and Yuri Ribeiro comprised the back four, with Watson and Tiago Silva in the defensive midfield roles ahead of them.

After his first league start at Hillsborough, Brennan Johnson kept his place in the side, linking up with Joe Lolley and Sammy Ameobi to support lone striker Lewis Grabban.

Here’s what fans have been saying:

Davspen: “I will be surprised if we see Samba Sow again this season. He had 3 months to recover from a ‘slight knee injury’ and still isn’t available despite being told yesterday that he was. Strange?”

Southwestred: “Yeah very strange, and a hammer blow to our promotion hopes. Our stats with or without him suggest he is pretty much irreplaceable, he makes us tick.

“Somehow we’ve got to get a win today. I’d take a 1-0 but we look a bit lightweight, I’m not confident at all...”

Paul Ecob: “Where’s Sow? He said he was fit the other day.”

Rory Kerry: “Would have liked Bostock to start.”

Richard Wheat: “Not for me. He was way too far up the pitch last weekend.”
