A Reddit user has discovered a weird and wacky way of keeping spiders out of your home without using any chemicals whatsoever.
After carrying out numerous experiments with light, they found one colour deters insects and flying pests and 'literally makes spiders run away.'
He said: "Blue is similar to white, while green tends to be neutral or draws them in, white is obviously a bug magnet, and red seems to either deter insects and flying pests, and keeps spiders away all together."
He said to see how effective it is for yourself, take two flashlights, cover one with red cellophane or red plastic, then shine the normal light while outside and time how long it takes bugs to come.
Then if you use the red light in the same place and turn off the white one, the bugs quite literally run and fly away.
People have been responding to the method of keeping creepy crawlies away and have been adding their own tips and tricks to the post.
One user advised: "I personally use neem oil on my plants as a repellent and u could also try planting peppermint as spiders can't deal with the smell."
Another wrote; "Peppermint oil is another one to keep them away. If you put it in all the corners of your house you'll notice them disappearing day-by-day."
