POLICE and paramedics rescued a man from Crackneck Lookout, Bateau Bay today after he was stranded on a cliff following a hang-gliding incident shortly before noon.
Rescuers arrived by helicopter after the man was reported injured on the cliff beneath the lookout which has only recently been formalised as a hang-gliding take-off point, following years of informal use by hang-gliding enthusiasts at the lookout within Wyrrabalong National Park.
Police and paramedics secured the man in an area close to the jump-off point and retrieved his parachute before specialist paramedics arrived by helicopter.
The man was retrieved by stretcher within several minutes of the helicopter landing.
The man, believed to be in his 20s, was treated at the scene and taken by ambulance to hospital.
The incident occurred in relatively light breezes.
Crackneck Lookout is one of the most popular lookouts in the north of the Central Coast with views up the coast. The hang-gliding area was fenced off and a turf jump-off point established after hang-gliders popularised the site and another Wyrrabalong National Park area at Forresters Beach.
