Stranded family cut off by tide at Scots coastal footpath spark urgent rescue mission

A rescue mission was launched for a family who were cut off by the tide at a Scots coastal footpath.

The Craignure Coastguard Rescue Team and the Ross of Mull team and Oban lifeboat squad crews scrambled to the Carsaig to Lochbuie footpath on the Isle of Mull after the tide suddenly changed on Sunday, July 25.

When mercy crews arrived the decision was made to evacuate the family by lifeboat.

The group were transferred safe and well back to Carsaig.

The incident came on a weekend after six people drowned in four separate water-related incidents across Scotland.

A spokesperson for the Craignure Coastguard Rescue Team said: "Please, please check the tide times before heading out to the coast this time the outcome was a good one.

"Weather was amazing again, getting used to shouts in good weather.

"REMEMBER: If you see someone in difficulty or something you are concerned about on the shoreline, beaches, cliffs, mud or water, call 999 immediately and ask for the Coastguard."
