Young Jean Lee has been named one of US theatre’s most acute observers of race and identity, and her new play pokes fun at society’s luckiest group, straight white men. Steve Mouzakis (Death and the Maiden, The Cherry Orchard) stars as one of the sensitive new age brothers, in the play directed by Leticia Cáceres.
Matt, Jake and Drew gather at their dad’s house for the usual Christmas celebration. They’ve got a few of their own rituals: playing politically correct board games and worrying about what mum would think.
While the boy’s liberal feminist mother has been dead for some time, she still casts a long shadow. Thanks to her, they know that being a heterosexual white male has given them an unfair advantage, yet as their carefree youth gives way to midlife anxieties, privileged is the last thing they feel.
