Grime sensation Stormzy will hit the Pyramid Stage this weekend as he headlines Friday night at Glastonbury.
It is the rapper’s third performance at Glastonbury, having performed on the Sonic Stage in 2016 and The Other Stage in 2017.
Stormzy has promised fans a show to remember, telling BBC News in May that “I’ve got to give the most energy, the biggest performance”.
The Croydon rapper’s rise to Glastonbury headliner has been nothing short of meteoric. The rapper’s rise to fame truly began in 2015 with the release of his single Shut Up, the rapper’s first Top 10 hit.
This success was followed by the 2017 release of his first studio album, Gang Signs and Prayers, an album which topped the charts and pushed grime music into the mainstream.
After two years without releasing music, Stormzy teased a second album earlier this year. New singles Vossi Bop and Crown will feature on this album, and will undoubtedly be performed on the Pyramid Stage.
Fans can expect some surprise hits from the grime superstar throughout his set. His cover of Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You is a known fan favourite following it’s performance at the 2017 BRIT Awards.
In addition to this, fans have speculated a possible collaborative performance with actor and DJ Idris Elba, with rumours flying after the actor featured in the music video of Vossi Bop.
Stormzy will face stern competition from other acts in terms of clashes on other stages. Fans will also be forced to choose between an array of talent including Interpol and Tame Impala, the other big names performing on Friday night.
