Storms to flash across the UK with four days of lightning

Lightning storms will roll across the UK for four days, drenching parts of the country in torrential downpoiurs.

The Met Office says after a break from the recent rain on Wednesday, with much of the country seeing some decent sunshine, Thursday will see the wet weather return with a vengeance.

According to the Met Office there will be lightning in various parts of the country every day from Thursday until Monday, reports The Mirror.

The south and west of the country will see the worst of the weather first with heavy downpours reaching the north by the end of the week.

The recent rain and forecast heavy downpours mean the Environment Agency has nine flood warnings and 56 alerts in force across England, from the south-west to the north-east.

On Thursday afternoon, showers in the west will become increasingly heavy. Friday will see further downpours, which may merge at times to form longer spells of rain. There will be strong winds, especially in the south.

On Saturday there will be patchy cloud and showers in the north and west. It is expected to be mostly dry and bright in the south and east.
