PATHUM THANI: Four people were injured and five vehicles damaged by falling electricity poles when a fierce summer storm hit Thanya Buri district early Wednesday afternoon.
Heavy rain ravaged the district in this central province, starting around 1.30pm, and brought down 11 poles on the Bangkok-bound side of Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road.
One lane was closed throughout the afternoon, causing a traffic jam tailing back at least 10 kilometres.
Pol Capt Saripong Apiwan, duty officer at Thanya Buri police station, said five vehicles were hit by the falling poles and four people in them were hurt, but none seriously.
Theerawat Youngapaikulrak of the Thanya Buri electricity office, said the fallen poles were being removed from the road as quickly as possible.
The Meteorological Department has issued a summer storm warning from Wednesdaythrough Friday for all northeastern and eastern provinces. Some provinces in the central plain, including Bangkok, were also likely to be affected.
