Storm Sebastien to bring high tides, huge waves and torrential downpours

Remnants of tropical storm Sebastien is set to hit the UK later this week bringing high tides, huge waves and torrential downpours

Despite what some may feel, Merseyside has been enjoying a relatively dry and mild November so far, but the forecast is set to change as the weather system surges across the ocean.

The Met Office has already issued a number of yellow weather warnings over the next three days, and luckily the North West looks like it might escape the worst of the storm as it hits the south-west of England and Wales today.

But that wont stop tide heights of over nine metres along the Merseyside coastline today, tomorrow and Thursday, with the chance of very high waves.

And rain is forecast for the next three days, but there will be cloudy breaks in the downpours.

Temperatures will remain mild, partly due to the warm tropical storm, staying at about 9°C until Friday.

It is after the weather system has passed that we will feel a huge drop to 1°C at times as we head for a bright but chilly weekend.

The Met Office said: "A broad area of heavy rain is expected to move northeastwards across [the UK] during Tuesday.

"Heavy showers then follow, these probably heaviest and most numerous on and near coastal areas, especially in Wales and southwest England.

"Conditions also quite windy at times, especially in coastal areas where gales are likely.

"The combination of rain and subsequent showers likely leads to 10-20 mm of rain quite widely whilst over high ground and in locations where showers are particularly frequent 20-40 mm may build up in a few places.

"Given already saturated ground following recent rainfall this brings the chance of further flooding and travel disruption."
