Storm Lorenzo sparks new weather warning in UK as Ireland set for 20C temperatures

Ireland will see highs of 20C next week following a bleak few days off the back of Storm Lorenzo.

The Met Office in the UK has issued a fresh weather warning, as the remnants of the ex-hurricane sweeps across the Irish Sea.

Thousands of homes and businesses were without power, with more flooded, in the west after Lorenzo came in from the Atlantic.

Although the worst is over, this weekend is shaping up to be a wash-out with more flooding being forecast.

However, Met Eireann is predicting temperatures will soar on Monday, with parts of Ireland expected to experience highs between 15C and 20C.

A forecaster said: "There'll be yet another spell of rain arriving Sunday night from the west but Sunday itself will be a dry day with mist clearing early and sunshine developing in light winds.

"Temperatures will reach 15C to 17C and light to moderate westerly winds will once again freshen overnight as the rain moves west to east. The rain will be heavy and bring more spot flooding.

"Monday rain in the morning in the east will slowly clear and then it will be a mainly dry day with showers, mainly affecting the Connacht and Ulster.

"Temperatures will be between 15C and 20C and winds will be fresh southwesterly."

The weather chiefs are forecasting "similar days" over Tuesday and Wednesday, with showers to mainly hit western counties.

The forecaster added: "Tuesday and Wednesday will be similar days with fresh, occasionally strong, southwest winds with showers mostly confined to western coastal areas. Temperatures around normal for the time of year."
